Hi everyone! I’m so excited to share with you my third collection of Styling Ideas. Today, I’m here to reveal a new wrap of simple tips on ‘How to style a bed like designers do’. Yep, I’m all for addressing one of the hard-hitting issues when decorating our bedroom. So, let’s start creating a bedding situation that inspires you.

Who doesn’t look forward at the end of the day, to go home after a long day at work, and just jump over a comfortable, warm and well-made bed? Cuddling into a duvet with some softy pillows until you fall asleep like a baby. Oh boy, there is nothing better I swear…
Without doubts, this is one of the everybody’s favourite things to do —specially during these days when it’s getting freezing.
But let’s be honest, making our bed is not a thing we actually love doing at home. When I was a child, I remember my mom begging me and my brothers to take the ‘bed-making’ activity as a part of our daily responsibilities. Nowadays, this is my first ‘must-to-do’ when I wake up in the morning.
As an adult, I realised the benefits of having a well-styled sleeping environment. This simple habit has improved the way I feel about my bedroom. Going to sleep is like a beautiful experience, and waking up each morning is a fresh and positive start.

Comfy pillows, high-quality bed linen, soft duvet and throws are little ingredients that can totally transform your room into the sleeping sanctuary that you deserve. A place where you feel more comfortable, relaxing and safe.
Since most of the people spend an average of 8 hours per day on the bed – which is 1/3 of our day – I believe it is worth investing on optimising our bedroom scene in order to make our sleeping time as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.
You deserve to wake up and be inspired by your surroundings; and by taking care of this, not only you will wake up feeling more energised and refreshed, but you’ll start to feel rejuvenated by the beauty around you.
Remember, there are enough things to stress you out in life so your home shouldn’t be one of them.
At the end of this blog, you will be able to create a bedroom scene that will be comfortable, happy, and inviting. So, are you ready to learn how to style your bed like designers do? carry on and read below!
Step 1: Define a theme or colour palette
Like with any styling, it helps to have a plan — what mood or theme do you want to achieve? This will inform your colour palette and ultimately the bedding, cushions and accessories you have to select. If you don’t know what to do, you can get some inspiration following my board on Pinterest. I promise you, you will love it!
Whatever you decide, consider mixing textures, prints or embellishments so the bedding isn’t all same-same and flat. Remember, you are about to design your sleeping sanctuary, so make sure yo do your best to create a comfortable environment that makes your sleep as restful and relaxing as possible.

Step 2: Set a foundation for space
When making a bed I actually start with the rug. When you wake up in the morning and put your bare feet on the ground, make sure you place them on a soft woven rug.
Rugs are a great feature for the bedroom, they add texture and warmth. Choose an oversized rug to go underneath your bed, otherwise, you can style smaller rugs to lie next to the bed.
As it’s a bedroom, you won’t be often walking over the rug with shoes on so you can go a bit lighter with your colour choice.

Step 3: Master the art of Layering your Bedding
The most important element of any bedroom is the bed, so the type of bedlinen you choose will dictate the look and feel of the entire space
To start, I like to go beyond simply putting on the sheets and the duvet. Layering different weights creates comfort so I advise you to add a ‘quilt or coverlet’ and layer it on top of the sheet then pull the banding over it.

Next, I love to cover the bed with a white Duvet. Using neutral bedding creates a blank slate and makes it easy to switch out throw pillows. However, if you choose a solid quilt, then it’s safe to go with a patterned duvet like the picture below. But if you choose a patterned quilt, stick to a solid duvet or one with a simple pattern. It’s okay to mix patterns as long as the colours coordinate or compliment one another.
Finally, add a finishing touch by using a Throw Blanket. Whether it’s tossed to the side or thrown across the bed, it always completes the look with some texture.

Step 4: Mix & Match Pillows!
Lots of pillows are essential in making your bed look cosy and inviting. In my opinion, the more pillows, the better. There’re many different types of pillow arrangements, and the inspiration below is the perfect one to illustrate my favourite.

Start with a couple of ‘Euro Sham Pillows’ at the back, followed by the ‘Sleeping Pillows’ and decorative ‘Pillow Shams’ forward. The ‘Throw Pillows’ usually end up on the floor, so I advice you to add just two or three. You can also incorporate a ‘Lumbar Pillow’ in front of them.
When deciding the combination, I like to think about how the colours, patterns, and sizes work together. If you decide to group three pillows think about keeping one of those pillows solid.
If you’re incorporating a pillow with a larger pattern consider mixing in another pillow with a more subtle or smaller pattern.

Step 5: Final touches!
You can have so much fun when trying these tips and give your personal touches. You don’t have to style the bed symmetrically, having some cushions stacked and another lying, or even reversing the colour order of cushions can add a lively twist.
If you really want a ‘perfect’ bed look and you’ve got time, another idea is to bust out the iron and give your sheets the once over.
To finish, I suggest standing back and if it doesn’t look right, edit one thing at a time.
